MCI WorldCom Distribution Center, St. Louis, MO
Service: Driven Pile / 334 Subsurface pre-cast pile - 45 ft long
The merger of MCI and Worldcom led to a consolidation of operations around the country. Consequently, St. Louis benefited from the consolidation by MCI WorldCom moving many of its operation centers and distribution centers to the area.
The first distribution center was built in North St. Louis County. The soil straitgraphy of this area is silt 0-10 ft, sand 10-120 ft. The job specifications called for friction pile of either concrete filled pipe pile or Subsurface's pre-cast concrete pile.
Subsurface was awarded the contract for 334 pile. Subsurface's pre-cast pile was more cost effective and readily available for this project. Subsurface selected 45 ft long piles for intended loads. A 100 ton load test was run to make sure the pile held the load without any problems. The project was completed in early June of 2000.
