Ground improvement with vibro stone columns on large parking structure

Located west of the Olentangy River in Columbus, Ohio, the Ohio Health Garage is a five-tier parking structure designed to accommodate over 1,325 vehicles. The site was originally comprised of a low-lying floodplain and was eventually infilled to create “buildable” land.

Subsurface Constructors designed and installed an aggregate pier ground improvement system consisting of 825 vibro stone columns, each 20 feet deep. The ground improvement system met the project design requirement of a 6,000 pounds per square foot (psf) bearing pressure while limiting post-treatment potential total settlement to less than 1.5 inches.
