Ground improvement with vibro stone columns on hotel site

Subsurface Constructors installed a ground improvement system of 432 vibro stone columns to a depth of 12.5 feet or refusal across the Residence Inn site. The site geology consisted of varying uncontrolled fill soils: lean clay, silty clay, sandy lean clay, sandy silt and silty sand. Borings indicated fill soils extended to approximately 27 feet below existing grade. Virgin lean clay soils existed beneath the fill soils to boring termination depths of approximately 33 feet below existing grade.
